Hello, friends! Today's blog post is going to be brief because my mind is so preoccupied by so many different things to be elaborate, but i'm really excited to let you know about what's been going on the past week. My team's ministry this week was to teach classes at a preschool – 8th grade bilingual Christian school. We were supposed to start Monday, but none of us, including the teachers at the school, knew that it was a holiday until none of the kids showed up to class in the morning. So! As a pleasant surprise, Tony took as back to Los Pinos for the day to surprise one of the ladies there by cleaning and painting her house for her! This is the lady who had the surgery that my friends and I donated blood to. She just recently had the surgery and was still recovering in the hospital Monday when we went to work. Overall, it was a great day and through actually getting down and dirty cleaning I actually felt like I could empathize far more with her and the people in Los Pinos than I could when we only did house visits to talk and pray with people a couple weeks ago. Just so you have an idea of what it was like; we had to go through piles of trash and tons of dirty crap (that I honestly would've considered trash) all with bare hands. We had to watch out for tons of huge cockroaches, spiders, and even scorpions that literally infested just about everything from the walls to the furniture to the floor. Overall, It was quite the experience, but I'm so glad I got to serve in this way. Unfortunately, We didn't actually get to painting that day, but we got everything relatively clean and organized for the group to follow us the next couple days.

So Tuesday we finally started teaching at the school! I was assigned to teach spelling, language, reading, and science to a class of about 12 or so third graders. This was definitely a challenge for me because I've never done anything like it before, but it was a lot of fun. My kids were a little bit crazy and out of control at times, but they were also really loving and fun. The material we covered was ridiculously easy even for third graders I think, but I was glad because that made it really easy for me. I didn't really even have to plan lessons haha. Altogether my classes spread out so that I only taught for like an hour and a half a day, but I was constantly kept busy being pulled outside by the boys to play soccer every recess, PE class or lunch break.

So overall it was a great week. Im pretty sure teaching third grade won't be a big part of my future, but it was definitely good to try it to know.

Finally, next week's ministry will be going to the village! I don't know what it's called, but I know that it's an extremely poor and somewhat secluded village about 4 hours away from Tegucigalpa. My team is staying there for a week to be fully immersed and to do ministry with the local church and community. Please pray for us! We won't have Internet next Friday since we'll be gone, but please pray for us and check back for an update early next week.

  1. Andrew!

What an adventure! As a current 3rd grade teacher (part time), I can sure understand your comments. It seems like children are children–no matter where they live!

    Lots of prayers,
